Effective approximately January 2011, camping at Kubu Island will no longer be possible. Camping will be relocated about 1 km away. This is due to irresponsible behavior, like graffiti. When this takes effect, a guide will be required to accompany visitors to Kubu. There is expected to be a fee for the guide also.

The Camp Kuzuma concession is now closed to transit traffic and bush camping.
Earlier this year, the private concession at Kuzuma Pans closed it's self catering campsite (a.k.a. Camp Kazuma) and will be opening an all-inclusive 5 Star Lodge. Hunter's Road and its waterholes are an integral part of it's game viewing trails. Due to the nature of it's cliental, the concession is closed to all except the lodge's $600pppn paying guests. A Travel Agent has passed this information to one of their clients who posted it on the Overland forum:
"We have just been informed that the DWNP offices here have changed their policy and are no longer accepting copies of National Park vouchers / permits at the entrance gates. We are trying to argue this due to the amount of international clients we have and the unreliable postal system in Botswana, however this is still ongoing.

As of Monday June 28th, 2010, firewood can no longer be collected in the national parks. All firewood must be bought along the road or in Maun before entering the park.

Concession holders will be able to control transit through their leases in the near future, including bush camping.
According to one of the concession holders, they have been given the task of grading and maintaining the fire breaks and cutlines in their concessions. This is a costly process, and they are also responsible for all litter and fires in the area. There has been problems in the past. We have received some information from a mobile safari operator that goes in effect as of July 1st. Only lodges can drive along the river front at Chobe NP. Mobile safari operators time slot will be 11:00AM. Additionally, the mobile safari operator must be out of the park by 11:00AM. or they will incur an extra day of park fees.
We do not know how this will effect the self drive.

These confirmed dates have been changed to August 20th - 23rd. The annual festival takes place at Dqae Qare Game Farm, near D'kar / Ghanzi.

Bush Ways Safaris has opened up Sango Safari Camp on the Khwai River. The camp is just outside Moremi Reserve, so park fees will not apply. They accept self drives with advance reservations at reasonable rates. The camp will also offer bush walks, night drives, along with other activities.

Effective June 11th, Kwalate Safaris has taken over management and operations of Ihaha, Xakanaxa, and South Gate(Maqwee) campsites. With that comes their new campsite rates.
